Small or large apartment? Which area is suitable for you?

Know more about the pros and cons of both small and large apartments.

Some people believe that the larger the area of the apartment, the better finishing it will be and the easier distributing the furniture over the spaces. Yet, it is a completely wrong belief that lacks the criteria of accuracy and study. This is actually because the design of the apartment is the core factor and much more important than the space factor, the more the engineering design of the apartment is organized and appropriate for the number of family members, the easier it will be prepared for living.

Different apartments areas and their relationship to the design

The average area of apartments in Egypt ranges between 100 – 250 m², and they differ of course in their divisions of rooms to suit everyone’s tastes and needs. There is not necessarily a relationship between the large area and the large number of rooms as the engineering design is never restricted to spaces. For instance, the apartment area may be 80 m², but contains 3 rooms, a hall, a kitchen and a bathroom, exactly like a design in an apartment 140 square meters. Therefore, even if your budget is limited and your family is big, you can look for a good apartment design that suits your needs at a lower cost.

Which area is suitable for you?

In Egypt, there are  apartments of different areas and dimensions, starting from 40 m² to 300 m² or larger, and determining the appropriate area is based on several factors that must be taken into consideration, namely:

  • The budget specified for the purchase.
  • Your basic need for the apartment whether it is for housing and stabilizing with the family – or it is for a business or office project.

How do you calculate the space of each room in the apartment?

To get a precise and accurate space of each room, you have to pay attention to the correct measurement factors. The room should be empty of furniture and its walls should be free of anything hung. Then, bring the meter, and begin the measurement process as follows:

If the room is rectangular, measure the sides of the room by pulling the end of the meter from the first point in the side to the last point. Then apply the process to calculate the length and width of the room, and after that apply the area law which is (length * width = area) i.e. if the length of the room is 5 meters and its width is 4 meters, for example, then its area = 20 m².
