In this article, you will know more about New Alamein, one of the new tourist cities located in the North Coast. The city lies within the administrative borders of Matrouh Governorate.

The establishment of the city came with the aim to promote the housing sector and urban development in the fourth-generation model. Besides, it is the first eco-friendly city.

Location of New Alamein

It is located on the western side of the North Coast. The city is 54 km away from Alamein International Airport, and 89 km away from Borg El Arab International Airport. Moreover, the city is 107 km away from Alexandria and 184 km away from Marsa Matrouh.

Area of New Alamein

New Alamein lies over an area of about 50,000 feddans, and is the first model of the new generation of Millennium Cities.

New Alamein is a fully-integrated project with the aim to meet the needs of its residents throughout the year. It is not just a destination for holidays, as it includes the following features and facilities:

  • 16 hotels, sports clubs, cinema complex, and theaters.
  • Scientific Research Center, and Business Center.
  • Residential projects, resorts, and yacht harbor.
  • It has been designed to accommodate more than 3,000,000 families by the end of the first phase.

Area History

The city was the scene of two major battles between the British and the axis Powers in 1942 during World War II, as well as a pivotal road between the east and the west. The British forces considered it as its first line of defense, as the city represented the maximum point where German forces penetrated Egypt, when it was determined to seize the Suez Canal.

The museum in the new city depicts the details of the battle that took place on its ground, as it contains personal belongings of soldiers and warriors, and figures of soldiers and commanders who participated in the battle.

The city includes a number of historical cemeteries, such as the German cemetery, which contains approximately 4,480 bodies of officers and soldiers.

Future of the City

The number of towers in New Alamein will increase from 15 to 18. As a result, more people will move away from the main crowded cities. Thus, the city will be a living destination throughout the year, along with a 20% of the area is dedicated to a global tourism hub that will attract tremendous investment opportunities.

Over the past few decades, El Alamein area has been designated to be one of the most important sites in Egypt. Thus,  Egyptians and foreigners come to enjoy the beautiful summer weather and the most important renowned beaches in the world.

Works in progress

  • Infrastructure works of the first phase (drinking water network – wastewater networks – rainwater drainage – irrigation networks for green areas – electricity network – transformer rooms – pumping boards distribution stations) extending over 1466 feddans within the scope of the work of the first phase.
  • The first stage of the 7 km tourist walkway, which will be extended to 14 km in the second phase.
  • Civil and finishing works will include the construction of the sand bridge and city gates.
  • Building two bridges on the strait above the lakes, and two pedestrian bridges at the top of strait 3 and 4, according to the city’s strategic plan.
  • Erecting lake-sides in coastal areas.
  • Building 3 towers of 34 floors (148 meters) built on an area of 39,000 square meters in the coastal area which amounts 150,000 square meters.
